I very falsely thought for a very long time that I had Priority Pass that it was only helpful internationally. This is NOT true! Each major domestic airport has several lounges that participate in Priority Pass. The question is whether they’re full, or allowing people with Priority Pass in.
Waiting List
Some lounges, like Turkish Airlines, have a waiting list. This means even if you can’t get in right away, you can get on a list to get in eventually. To me this has a lot more hope that just being turned away.
Choosing a Lounge
What lounge to choose? It is very easy to find reviews of the lounges. Each lounge has it’s perk and it’s drawback – so do your research. Some excel in complimentary food, while others excel in space or amenities such as showers.
My International Lounge Experience
I did indeed find the lounge access the most useful internationally. When I was in Grenada the airport had very little seating at the gates, but the Priority Pass lounge had nice comfortable seating, some minimal snacks, and very good coffee.
The Evolution of Lounges
My personal non-research backed opinion is that lounges have really evolved over the years. In the early 2000s very few people were in the lounges and they were a bit of an elite experience. Now everyone and his brother can get into lounges and some of them can be a bit of a zoo.
